The Western Balkans Meet Japan Youth Exchange Program 2027 invites undergraduate and graduate students from the Western Balkans to participate in a fully funded, seven-day cultural and academic experience in Japan. This unique initiative, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), aims to deepen participants' understanding of Japan's peacebuilding efforts and foster mutual cooperation through cross-cultural dialogue. Participants will engage in institutional visits and activities designed to promote personal and professional growth, preparing them to advocate for peace within their own communities.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective applicants must meet the following conditions to be considered for the Western Balkans Meet Japan 2027 program:

• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD student in a university located in the Western Balkans.

• Applicants must be 20 years of age or older at the time of application.

• Must reside in one of the Western Balkans societies: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Serbia.

• Must possess a valid passport issued by one of the WB6 countries.

• Individuals holding Japanese nationality are not eligible to apply.

• Demonstrate a strong command of the English language, as all program activities will be conducted in English.

• Must be highly motivated to share insights and information about Japan's cultural attractions and peacebuilding initiatives using various communication platforms.

• Should not have previously participated in any exchange or similar programs sponsored by the Government of Japan.

• Must not have previously lived in Japan for an extended period.
